How did Hydrangea Studio get its name?
Hydrangea ~ "Hydra" is from the Greek for "water."
"Angea" is a "capsule"
Hence,
Hydrangea is a "capsule of water" or "essence of life."
When I began to seriously take on Chinese Brush into my style of painting, one of the artists I was quite impressed with was
an 18th century female artist named Yun Bun. One of her paintings was of a Hydrangea with a Mallow. I hoped to emulate the
exquisite ephemeralness of her work. After a series of hydrangea paintings starting in '91, in 1996 I painted "Hydrangea
Air" which I felt accomplished this ideal and the next year decided to call my studio after the flower. I hope my work
does capture an "essence of life." "Hydrangea Air" is available as a giclee print.
