Karen's still-lifes incorporate the oriental ideas of yin and yang, chi and blood, and the five elements. You can look
for this in the balance of lights and darks, the choice of textures, colors and substance and the energy and movement through
and within the painting.
Landscapes encompass trees (wood), rocks, mountains, water, shrubs and perennial flowers and grasses. LeGault focuses on
landscapes with water, bringer of sustenance and life. Its interaction with the sun (fire element) earth, metal,(rocks) and
plants determines the environment. Water by itself is "empty". Its meeting with the other elements is what determines its
nature, whether slow, fast, deep, shallow, warm or cold, along with what type of plants grow up around it.
The dragon is a well known high energy emblem of the element of "wood", governing all growing plants
that reach for the su while putting roots in the earth. . Breath and "chi" combine together creatively, arousing the birth
of fire, the element of inspiration.
Exciting Florals convey that sense of energy and growth as well as the essence
of the moment, power, fragility and fragrance.
